The desire to be free from the limits of the human experience is as old as our first stories. We exist in an endless universe, only bound by the laws of physics and yet, our consciousness is trapped in mortal machines made of meat. With the breathtaking explosion of innovation and progress, for the first time the concept of leaving our flesh piles behind and uploading our minds into a digital utopia seems possible. Even like the logical next step on our evolutionary ladder.

Wow what a journey. Over a year ago CD Projekt Red got in touch and asked us if we would like to make a video about some of the scientific or philosophical aspects of Cyberpunk 2077. Just like most of the internet we were super excited and eager for this game to come out finally. The Witcher series is one of the most entertaining series we played ourselves and Cyberpunk seemed like it could genuinely top even that. So it was a super easy yes from us and we went on to make the video, putting in a lot of love and care to do this collaboration justice. And of course, as the release date got pushed back, our video release date did too. So we have been keeping this video a secret for quite some time, hopefully you like it. When this video comes out a good chunk of the Kurzgesagt team will either download or already be playing the game. If you want to get it too and support CD Projekt Red directly get the game here: cyberpunk.net/buy
I think instead of copying your brain you can tell all your past experience that you have remembered from the young age to the robot to convert all your memories into codings to create artificial intelligence
@Aleksandar Puharic people should know by now not to expect the world of games they preorder. Life is a lot less disappointing this way.
@TheFachen The thing is it was so overhyped. "Next-gen" open world game.
@Aleksandar Puharic if you didnt need it to be something, it is fine. If you needed it to be witcher 4 in the future youll be bummed out. And if you hate bugs it is skyrim ptsd simulator
So... How was disappointment when the game finally came out?
The first step for this is full dive vr
Lol I thought about this years ago, the only problem is how to bring your emotion with you.
*no* Video is over
Isn't it pretty weird that the brain is learning about itself?
this video is just too good to be on youtube
the most terrifying prospect of this in my opinion comes from the idea of coexistance with yourself. not the concept of living with your mind, but the fact that presumably in the process of transfer there is a 50/50 chance that you will actually be uploaded and instead you just wake up with a digital copy of yourself. that uttery terrifies me to think about because it means that there is a me that will live forever, but i won't. there will be a me that experiences everything there is to experience, but i won't. i don't think i'd be able to live with that. and even if the body doesn't wake up and gets stored somewhere or just dies and gets thrown away then that would arguably be worse because that means that you tried to upload yourself and you failed. you didn't make it, something else did. that would be awful. tl;dr if i get uploaded, i want to be the mind not the body.
i love how the ape in the intro is holding a different thing in every video
so what I'm hearing is Immersive VR
*Cyberpunk 2077 music starts*
Theres a major flaw with the up loaded consciousness theory ... Because it wouldn't be you ... It would only be a Copy of you ! : (
El juego es arrechisimo no importa que no lo pueda correr en mi pc (bien)
Who is here because of "upload" serie?
Next time someone asks you why you would need a petabyte of data, show them this video!
Nawh I wanna die eventually. 🥰
I think the problem is that even when mind upload will be a thing, the copy of your brain will just be a copy of you but your consciousness will still stay in your physical body so you will not be immortal, there will be another you that is. The real you will still die and your mind will cease to exist. But for a person who is looking for the side it will look like the digital brain of you is really 'you' when really they just killed you by cutting your brain into pieces.
1:01 Keanu Duck
It is possible its just there not ready to share it with the world
Good video, bad game
The Game fails. But this video is masterpiece.
This topic was in the SOMA first.
1:00 Keanu is a birb now
12:00 oh its like Among Us!
Requested Topic: Is it possible to use the brain as a computer, to run games and applications and stuff like that ?
Wait if it can what are you gonna do i have negative thought
Dora The Internet Explora
Wow,it is very true,guys i love you.
Cyberpunk release war so schlecht dass die jede werbung brauchen 🤭🤭
I am Legion Bobiverse. Great audiobook that takes off in this direction with human brains being Replicated in software. They talk about virtual reality life, spending decades researching and eventually building ultra realistic humanoid forms to download themselves back into.
can you do a vid if magic is real
Me whenever I watch Kurzgesagt:I like your funny words magic man
Copying a full brain, or even a little part of it is very hard and resource consuming, but what if we could copy the DNA of an organism, maybe change it in some way and make it develop in a simulation, into something more complex? P.S. Apologies in case this was already commented by someone. P.S. 2 For some reason when I write comments they copy, so don't be mad if you see it twice.
0:18 "With the *breathtaking* explosion of innovation and progress..."
i would say mind is the map of our data
This idea is awesome
Bruhify
The possibilities are limitless, unfortunately it will only be a replica and still a limit will be visible unlike the natural.
this could be another explanation for Femi paradox: we don't see aliens in this vast cosmos because they have advanced to a point where they transcends their physical forms and merges their minds with the universe.
Simple, we just needs Alt Cunningham and Arasaka corp :P
nice reference 7:80
I thought I’m the only one though we can copy our mind by completely clone our brain. So glad I’m no alone.
Funny thing is: We will live forever after death and we will do whatever we want. If we DESERVE IT. We don't even need to push the technology to make it possible. Then shall anyone who has done an atom´s weight of good, see it! And anyone who has done an atom´s weight of evil, shall see it. Al-Zilzal 7-8
Perhaps the videogame industry will help to have the answer in the future
No matter what we do, it doesnt guarantee inner subjective conscious experience, and thats impossible because physicalism is just an assumption far from truth. We know that consciousness cannot be limited to physiological mind, because in that way it will lead to paradox, Here's how? 1. If consciousness is simply the product of epiphenomenal events of physiological brain, then our consciousness is just an illusion. 2. We know that all the intuition we have including our 5 sense is due to our consciousness. 3. Since the consciousness itself is illusion. 4. All the material-reality that we perceive through our inner subjective consciousness is also an illusion. 5. Threfore material reality does not exist. 6. But we just discussed in point no. 1 that consciousness itself solely the product of epiphenomenal events in the physiological brain (i.e. material brain) . This is the paradox. Therefore consciousness must have an immaterial existance. Since consciousness is immaterial existent, we can never achieve Transhumanism (uploading our mind in the computer). Let me know your thoughts.
You make a very interesting point. First time hearing this. 🔥🤔🔥
The homely mandolin immediately scream because shadow recurrently squeak between a painful trout. impartial, thin form
Even if you succeed, what you actually do is a copy of your history and psychological profile that is sentient, but that won't still and ever be you anyway, just a "psyche" copy, however if you make it, I suppose it would run on a quantum computer. The quantic theories about our consciousness and our brain are intriguing, maybe there is more than just neurons or hormones to consider. That's what I think at least.
Daniel Dennett spotted at 2:49
Making a copy isn’t an upload, I would still die
when you upload a file, you copy it and put it somewhere else. its still an upload
You guys are way too good at what you do. The way of telling the idea, proccessing the idea, artworks etc.
why this video is not buggy
Screw uploading to a network and living forever. It's a cybernetic body and a blaze of glory for me!
Thats right dont be afraid of loosing your body it does not matter. Come join the Wired
9:55 dope. Or as they said in Phantom Menace, "now there are two of them? This is getting out of hand!"
9:27 what if you can't handle having a stream-of-consciousness that long? So a simulated mind goes through loops of birth, life, death, and rebirth- so it only has to process the information of a single lifetime each time?
Imagine your mind being uploaded to the actual Cyberpunk 2077 game. You could actually feel those bugs
Its an unhuman life
The brain doesn't know about itself
Bad
If uploading our minds is possible, will humans still seek, fight, obsess over religions, power struggles etc ? Wouldn't that be a stage where we transcend multiple areas of limited human understanding ? Since we become digital, most of our negative and positive human tendencies tend to decrease, won't they ?
So our brain is not smart enough to understand how itself works.
We couldnt imagine to listen to chirp of a bird again, repeatedly some years ago. We couldnt imagine to catch and save a beautiful view but then we created photography, television, discs, flash cards and so on. So that could be a real thing in some way. But that would be great if we could just save thoughts and ideas if a human, the way he thinks, that we could learn some things better, and i mean, as we save information on computers, as we save text in word file. It would be truly terrifiyng if we could get inside ones mindand hack it. But it eould be amazing to record the way one thinks. Imagine if we could play Einsteins or Hawkings or Teslas thoughts, as we push button and play music. That may evulutionize our science and progress our society. But just be able to record some things, and not more 😅😅😅
Nobody: Kurzgesagt: And now, watch ads
first time talk the game
We need to put more effort into molecular / DNA computers. Silicon computers are not going to get us where we need to go.
So where do I go and who do I talk to in person about perfecting the process of physically having a consciousness that lasts forever.
Nobody: Cyberpunk 2077: 0:36
So hackers become gods?
Okey luisito n o comunica
Nice video, terrible game
If you believe in "mind uploading" then you must also accept the a prori postulate of Cartesian Dualism. But here's the thing: There's no good reason to accept Cartesian Dualism. If you're sufficiently read in current psychology and philosophy you probably already **don't** subscribe to Cartesian Dualism. In fact, science (especially nutrition science) is now demonstrating all the ways in which the secretions of the non-brain portions of the body affect the consciousness in avenues such as memory, mood, personality, perceptive ability (focus) and so on. For example: The immune response, blood glucose balance, gut micro biome, endocrine system, sex hormones and intestinal secretions of serotonin can all severely perturb (or enhance) the quality of one's thought and focus to the point where prolonged disturbances can lead to permanent or semi-permanent cognitive impairments like Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia, ADD, psychological disorders (anxiety/depression) or autism spectrum disorders. So Who's Mind is it Anyway? Is it whatever portions of cognition that may be isolated solely to the brain of the cranium? If so, this is certainly a truncated "you" which is bereft of the essential affects and coloration of the consciousness which produces "unique" individual variations in mood, personality and cognitive ability. The body *is* a mind and the mind *is* a body (a discrete system of causal mechanisms).
Yeah.. That will be a thing.. Fine. Hi. My name is Johan Sebastian Berglund, and by typing "Johan Sebastian Berglund - artist and caricaturist", there is my BGworld channel with story, paintings, caricatures and so.. and maybe can give a "like" and a "subscribe". Thank you.
"I smoked a fat virtual spliff with Elon Musk and Emperor Palpatine in the vacuum of space. Now unplug me"
Imagine if we our brain is placed in new baby .
Its just a computer simulation of you. Its not you.
Pleaaaase do a video on the brain
They did like 10 episodes of the brain, what more do you want?
If you are interested about these themes play SOMA or Nier: automata. You can actually play those games unlike Cyberpunk2077. SOMA and Nier: automata are the most philosophical games there exists.
scary part of all this, is that even if we could recreate consciousness, it’s not the same thing as transferring it. the copy of your mind is not the real you. the real you will die, and the new copy of you will continue to exist, meaning you will still face and go through death, which kind of ruins the whole point. the bigger goal should be the goal of being able to completely TRANSFER consciousness, not just recreating it.
@yes yes ok
@Apple TV ?? there’s a difference between creating a replica of something and transferring something.
isnt that means transfer? think about it...
This concept was also used in a game calles Soma (from the makers of amnesia)
Now that's content...
After watching this I got to the conclusion that we won't develop the technology to upload or keep a brain alive using nanotechnology but the Artificial Intelligence, and the reason is because we're limited to make calculations and decisions as humans, in the ends A.I will surpass us and it's up to us create an isolated artificial intelligence so it doesn't go out of control and is capable of developing technology further.
The breakable printer pathogenetically slow because breath revealingly whip than a sick charles. handsome, nutty kenya
It would never be you. Even an exact copy.
exactly, in the end they will have to create a technology to preserve the brain using nanotechnology or by biotechnology using artificial cells or compatible artificial organs
Sooook the matrix?
I heard a theory of DNA used as storage devices plssss can you do a video on that
사람들이 저거 사이버 버그 2077 이러던데 버그가 판을치나?
best channel on youtube
This idea is so stupid that never should be taken as a serious "theory"...
ah, the endless nature of humanity seeking immortality, something that is bred into us in our cores due to the Lord making us so when He designed us.
It look like Is not a design
When people understood what mind is,they will feel this question is actually stupid......like:"Can I let my memories live the live for me?" The answer to the both question are the same:"Your mind is cosmos itself, you will actually never die...the optimal way of input-life is always: Listen to the voice of ego&conscious&all-dimensions Focus< >Let go Here&Now "
Think asking someone 300 years ago whether or not humans could clone a sheep.
stupid video because there is one easy anwser: The brain can't understand the brain.
ferb, i know what we gonna do today
What a year to all of us. This sounds like the science of ego death and build empathy :')
Well, finally completed the game so now I can watch this video. ;) I really like Cyberpunk's depiction of people who have been uploaded and after several decades are only very vaguely related to the people they once were.
you should play SOMA, it's a game revolve around brain scan, and it's a truly underrated masterpiece
Don't know about uploading your mind, but VR is crazy.
Wishful thinking...just like billions of people throughout millennia have wanted to live forever in a nonexistent heaven. 💕 ☮ 🌎 🌌
*_Please add English subtitles..._*
it's impossible to upload your mind and live forever , because there is another major thing you need to understand , the real holder of the your mind is your soul , because the soul is the thing that controls your mind , and when you die the thing that rest from your body is only you soul
Before we have the technology to upload a mind we will have enough knowledge of the brain to mind control _everyone._ I'd rather not be alive when that happens. But if I am, I guess I wouldn't be mentally able to complain about it.
This is great bc if we get good enough we might be able to make something like SAO ( sword art online)
No one will ever find this channel name by accident
